11. endoplasmic reticulum Flashcards
Chloroplast targeting domain
transit peptide (N terminus)
Mitochondria targeting domain
Presequence (N terminus)
Nucleus targeting domain
Nuclear localisation signal
Peroxisome targeting domain (2)
Peroxisome targeting signal (PTS1) - C terminus
PTS2 - N terminus
Which chaperone helps unfolded proteins enter the chloroplast?
Hsp70
Which chaperone assists protein folding in the chloroplasts?
Hsp60
Is the NLS cleaved off once entered the nucleus?
No - so proteins can re-enter nucleus if they e exported to cytosol
How are proteins imported into the nucleus?
Importin binds to the NLS and diffuses through the NPC, interacting with FG-nucleoporins.
What happens after the importing-cargo complex is within the nucleus?
Ran GDP is converted to RanGTP which then binds to importin and causes a conformational change so that the cargo is released
What is required as well as SP for targeting to the ER?
HDEL/KDEL
What is required for translocation of proteins into the ER lumen in yeast?
SEC61
