Financial Motivators
Time-based wage rate, piece rate, salary, commission, bonus payment, performance related pay(PRP), profit sharing, share-ownership schemes & fringe benefits.
Piece rate
(Frederick Taylor) Payment to a worker each unit is produced
Advantages of piece rate
- Encourages workers to increase ouput
- Easy to calculate the labour cost per unit.
Disadvantage of piece rate
- Quality might fall
- No security in pay levels(if production is delayed)
- In many jobs, individual ouput per worker cannot be calculated.
Piece rate is used in situations
- Output of each worker is easy to identify and measure
- There is a need to keep unit costs as low as possible.
Self actualisation
A sense of self fulfilment reached by feeling enriched and developed by what one has learned and achieved.
Why are there motivation theories?
These attempt to identify which human needs can be satisfied at work and how workers can be motivated to work.
