Q

Find joist size donensions when given the OC spacing without bridging and max span where the joists butt into each other on the beam

A

16
Q

Cantilever joist rule when PERPENDICULAR and LOAD BEARING

A

1 outward cantilever: 6 inward projection

17
Q

Will floor shears help with squeaks?

A

Yes. Gotta glue and screw

18
Q

Why don’t we usually turn our floor sheats when we install them at weird spaces or cantilevers?

A

Unsupported T+G edge needs blocking underneath it; extra steps

19
Q

Can you completely suck up floor sheets to each other?

A

No they’re designed to have a 2mm gap

20
Q

TFF Joist is 200mm deep, can I drill a 100mm hole?

A

No. Can only drop 1/4 depth sized hole; 50mm largest

21
Q

Can the edge of my hold be drilled 30mm from the edge of my TFF joist?

A

No. Minimum 50mm

22
Q

Want to drill a 100mm deep notch on my 200mm joist. Yes?

A

No. Max is 1/3 depth not 1/2.

23
Q

I’m anticipating a really heavy tv stand by the exterior wall in my living room…do I need something additional to my i joists?

A

Yes. Squash blocks to counter compression

24
Q

Can I use regular i joists on the foundation walls going parallel to all my other joists?

A

No. You need either a pony wall, or install squash blocks along that joist

25
Q

My hanger nails aren’t really digging into my joists when…do I need something to fill the space?

A

Web filler for nails to bite into at joist ends where they sit in hangers

26
Q

I need to laminate two joists together….

A

Need filler blocks in between for additional support and fastening

27
Q

I need to drill two different holes close together on my i joist. How far apart should I put them?

A

2x the diameter of the LARGEST hole

28
Q

My boss told me to cut my i joists 1/4” shorter than we need…is that safe?

A

Yes. It gives wiggle room during installation and still fits bearing requirements of code
