103eA: Foundations Systems-Part A Flashcards
Where do you attach braces to flat bar form?
Ribbon
Why do we need water bars on flat bar forms?
To hold ties in place
Do you need something to hold bottom of flat bar system from pushing out?
Yes. Kicker
How do you make space in a concrete wall for a beam install?
Beam pocket
How do you form a window on a concrete wall?
Window buck
On flat bar, where should you start erecting forms?
Inside corners
When laying out for flat bar, what 2 main dimensions do you need to chalk an accurate line
1) wall thickness
2) form thickness
Can you leave a flat bar water hanging over a panel joint?
No. You must overlap them by at least one form tie
Is a ladder box used for climbing?
No. It is a method to attach the floor system to the concrete walls
I want to hold my form corner panels together, what’s best to use?
1) brackets
2) hinges
Should I leave my rebar ends hanging loose?
No. They need to be tied together with at least a 300mm/1ft overlap
The excavation is to the right of my wall…where should I place my rebar?
Closer to the left side face of your wall
I framed a window buck, that should hold the concrete above the RO right?
No you need additional rebar over the opening
It’s cold out and I need to pour concrete. I don’t want to move around too much so I’m just going to stand in one spot…
Don’t do that. You’d create a mountain of concrete in that area which would form very thin cracks in the walls where the layers meet
My concrete wall isn’t flat at the top, it has a bunch of rebar poking out! Wtf???
Those are anchors for the sill plates to attach to in order to install the floor system
I got all the way to the top and my concrete form blew out at the bottom…
1) kicker might’ve not been installed
2) incorrect installation/spacing of form ties at the bottom
3) didn’t move concrete hose around to even put pressure as you poured
There’s a MILLION air pockets in my finished concrete….
Didn’t vibrate and consolidate it well enough
I busted my face open walking by our finished concrete wall….wtf
Someone didn’t hit off the form tie ends properly after removing the water bars and panels
My excavator backfilled bare concrete. Problem?
Needs to be coated with damp proofing product to prevent moisture intrusion
What’s that weird pipe under the gravel outside my footings?
Weeping tile. A void to collect water that drains down the sides of foundation walls/soil
After a couple years it LOOKS like my concrete walls are a foot higher than where we graded them…
The backfill settled heavily and might now be sloped toward the house
There’s a fuckton of water in my basement window well…this sucks
Should’ve had the guys install proper drainage pipe down to the weeping. Tile at the footing
While backfilling, my foundation wall developed a huge crack!!
Your guy probably backfilled unevenly and put too much pressure on one spot at once
I bought all my flat bar stuff but I have nowhere to put my ties through…
Gotta router them out bud
I need to align my bottom forms….
Install a kicker
My form fell over overnight!!!
Probably didn’t have a shallow enough angle on brace. Must be 45deg or less
What are latches for?
1) hold form ties
2) convection pre-manufactured panels
3 lateral pressure causes during concrete placement
1) vibrating
2) cold weather; slower setting concrete
3) rate of pour
Can I use large rocks in my backfill?
No. It could scrape the damp proofing, and will create voids when you try to tamp it down
