1030- Protein sorting and trafficking Flashcards
The cytoplasmic pathway for completely folded proteins
proteins are formed from the MRNA and cytoplasmic ribosome , the completely folded proteins then go to either the peroxisome , act as a cytoplasmic protein or is transferred to the nucleus.
The cytoplasmic pathway for completely unfolded proteins
transferred to the mitochondria to be folded up .
ER signal sequence
Originally there is an ER signal sequence attached to a protein inside the ER and there is a cytoplasmic protein outside the ER. The signal sequence then attaches itself to the protein in the ER.
What is the 2 destinations of formed proteins in the ER.
Proteins are either transported to the cell membrane to be a membrane protein or the protein is transferred to other vesicle components of the cell.
What protein modifications occur in the ER
Protein folding, Formation of disulphide bonds, glycosylation bonds.
Function of glycosyltransferases
Enzymes which add sugars to proteins.
