Explain the importance of any Christian festival
- reminds us of JESUS’ LIFE (birth, resurrection, temptation, last supper, death, resurrection)
- demonstrates that Jesus was the INCARNATION as he (born of a virgin, survived fasting in the desert, called God his father in the last supper, rose from the dead)

LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST- transubstantiation occurs bread and wine –> body and blood
RITE OF DISMISSAL- priests sends out the laity to spread the gospel to the world
The meaning is the anointing of the sick
- PREPARATION for death and meeting God
- PRAYERS for HEALING are said that if it is Gods will the sick party is healed
- during the sacrament a person receives RECONCILIATION (meet death without sin)
- UNITIES the CHURCH in prayer with the sick member of the laity
The meaning of the sacrament of confirmation
- FINAL sacrament of initiation when someone is fully welcomed into the church
- sealed/ receive the HOLY SPIRIT (gifts God gave at baptism reach fulfilment)
- recognised as being an ADULT MEMBER of the church (Catholic readily commits to their faith)
- GRACE (spiritual faith) is given to live the Christian life and honour their baptismal promises.
The meaning of the sacrament of reconciliation
- FORGIVENESS of sins, venial (small) and grave (serious) sins
- REPAIRS OUR RELATIONSHIP with God
- enables a catholic to achieve SALVATION
- during reconciliation priest offers ADVICE on how to live the Christian life
The meaning of baptism
- WELCOME the person into the church community
- WASHES AWAY the stain of original sin
- PARENTS & GODPARENTS make BAPTISMAL VOWS were they promise pass son the teachings of the church and to raise the child in the Catholic faith
- FIRST sacrament of initiation, through baptism all other sacraments are accessible

- remembering JESUS BIRTH, incarnation
- Catholics RECONNECT with their faith
- Catholics spend time as a COMMUNITY actively WORSHIPPING God
- receive SACRAMENTS particularly reconciliation and the Eucharist

The meaning of lent
- Catholics attempt to live WITHOUT something showing DEVOTION to GOD as it gives them more time to think about God
- on ASH WEDNESDAY catholics have an ASH CROSS put on their forehead at mass to remind them to pray, fast and give more to charity
- Catholics try to PRAY more and strengthen their faith by helping others (visiting the sick and housebound)
- SPECIAL MEETINGS/GROUPS that meet to discuss the importance of Easter and how to honour the important occasion
Explain the meaning of Holy Week
- begins on PALM SUNDAY includes MAUNDY THURSDAY and ends on HOLY SATURDAY
- during Holy Week Catholics REMEMBER Jesus life and his teachings
- there are special liturgies such as the STATIONS OF THE CROSS as well as re-enactments of the last supper
- time of REFLECTION and prayer on the SUFFERINGS OF JESUS which saved us from sin
Meaning of Easter
- RESURRECTION of Jesus proved he was the son of God
- allowed us to achieve SALVATION as he died and saved us from sin
- proves that death has been overcome and assures Christians they will have ETERNAL LIFE
- gives Christians the opportunity to think about the MYSTERIES of their faith and have a stronger belief
