10.3 Flashcards
What is the difference between autosomal and sex-linked traits
Autosomal traits are traits inherited from the autosomal chromosomes, sex-linked traits are traits that are inherited from the sex chromosomes, usually the X.
What is the difference between recessive and dominant traits
Traits that are dominant show themselves every time they are in an allele, while recessive only show themselves when there are two of them in one allele
What is a Y-linked trait
Traits that are linked to the Y chromosome, these traits will only and always be passed down from Father to son
X^h X^H : X^h Y
In this cross, what are the chances of a girl having hemophilia and the chances of a boy having hemophilia
For a girl the chances of having hemophilia is 1/2, while the chances of her being a carrier is also 1/2. For a boy its the same.
What are some good indications of a Y linked trait being passed on
What is a good indication of a recessive trait being passed on
Whats a good indication of a Dominant trait being passed on
If only the only people affected by it are males
If usually only a minority of the offspring are getting it, or if it is skipping generations
If a majority of the offspring are getting it, and it will not skip generations.
