1020 MODULE 2 BODY FLUID Flashcards

1
Q

Bodily Fluid Compartments

A

Intracellular- compromised in the cell.
The extracellular- environment outside the cell
the extracellular environment has a blood supply- plasma and interstitial.
BLOOD PLASMA AND INTERSTITIAL ARE NOT TOGETHER

Q

blood plasma

A

a) is mostly made up of proteins, gases, ions, nutrients

Q

Why is there a difference in the ionic compartment between inside and outside the cell

A
  • this is caused by the cell membrane which is also called the plasma membrane
  • this forms a physical barrier between the intracellular and extracellular fluid
  • this selectively permeable membrane allows some substances in while some macromolecules out.
membrane has special channels, pores, and special transport systems
