101 Flashcards
What is ORM
process of evaluating and assessing risks inherent with military operations and ensure they are mitigated at the lowest possible level.
Steps of ORM
I - Identifying Hazards A - Assessing hazards M - Make risk decisions I - Implementing Control S - Supervising
Instruction that governs safety and mishap reporting
OPNAVINST 5102.1D
Mishap Probability is what?
an assessment of the likelihood that a mishap will occur.
Mishap Probability subcategories:
- Likely to occur, immediately or within a short period of time.
- Probably will occur in time.
- May occur in time.
- Unlikely to occur, but not impossible.
What is a RAC?
Risk assessment code - based of the combination of hazard severity and mishap probability. 5 of them.
What are the 5 RACs?
- Critical
- Serious
- Moderate
- Minor
- Negligible
How long do you have to report DON on-duty civilian fatalities occurring within the US?
within 8 hours of obtaining knowledge of mishap.
How long do you have to report hospitalization of three or more civilian employees?
120 days
Things that need to be including in mishap report:
- command name
- Location
- Time and datge
- # of fatalities or hospitalized employees
- POC
- Circumstance/brief description of mishap
4 required mishap reportable items are?
- Class A, B, C government property damage mishaps.
- Class A, B, C on-duty civilian mishaps + on/off duty military mishaps.
- work-related illness of injury that involves medical treatment beyond first aid, loss of consciousness, LLD or days away from work.
- Catch-all any other incidents of interest to Navy/Marine Corps.
Purpose of a HAZREP message?
submit on hazardous conditions that may be of interest to other commands but do not warrant submission of a SITREP.
State 3 objectives of first aid
- Save life
- Prevent further injury
- prevent infection
Four methods of controlling bleeding
- Direct Pressure
- Pressure POoints
- Tourniquet
- Elevation
Identify 11 pressure points
There are actually over 30, but the 11 most common are:
Temporal, Posterior Facial,
Jugular, Dorsal Venous Arch, Aorta, etc
What is shock and its treatments?
disruption of the circulatory system.
laying down, feet elevated, cover them to maintain body heat. Calm victim if conscious
3 types of burns and description
First degree. Mildest. Slight pain, redness, increased temperature
Second degree. More serious. Inner skin damaged, blistering, severe pain, some dehydration and shock.
Third degree. Most severe. Skin can be destroyed, tissue and muscle damage. Charred skin or white from death of tissue/cells. Pain can be more or less severe depending on nerve damage. Chilling of body.
Treatment for burns.
<20% of body immerse in cold water, apply cold compresses.
>20% of body apply sterile, dry bandages continue treatment until no pain is felt when skin is exposed to dry air.
closed/simple fracture and open/compound fracture difference?
closed = entirely internal. open = open wound in the tissue or skin.
Most important thing about rescuing a person who has received an electric shock?
Do not touch the persons body or anything near them that could allow electricity to conduct from the victim or surrounding area to yourself, creating 2 victims.
Clearing obstructed airways how?
- Heimlich maneuver
- Reclining abdominal thrusts.
- tracheotomy in an emergency if trained and confident.
HERO/HERP/HERF
Hazardous Electromagnetic Radiation to Ordnance, Fuels, Personnel
superficial/deep frostbite difference.
32 degrees F or lower. Upper skin and deep tissue.
What is HAZMAT?
any materials that because of quantity, concentration or physical or chemical characteristics may pose a substantial hazard to human health or the environment when purposefully released or accidentally spilled.
Types of HAZMAT:
FATCOC Flammable Acidic Toxic Corrosive Oxidizer Aerosols
MSDS
Is a form with data regarding the properties of a particular substance.
