Diplomatic relations between the two were established on October 12, 1948
How did both men try to reunite Korea?
Rhee called for American support to overthrow Kim and Kim sent raiding parties across the border to undermine southern government
What did Kim do in 1949?
He asked Stalin to help him invade the south and Stalin agreed to provide weapons but not troops in 1950

Asked the UN to call a ceasefire
Why was it significant the su was boycotting the UN?
The UN was able to vote for the immediate withdrawal of North Korean troops with the SU unable to oppose
What happened after the UN voted for troops to be withdrawn?
The north’s troops remained and so the UN sent troops to support rhee.
Why couldn’t the USA be accused of acting alone?
Because the troops were officially UN soldiers
