What does it mean if something is in stable equilibrium?
It is safely in equilibrium (e.g. a rock on flat surface)
What does it mean if something is in an unstable equilibrium?
It is in equilibrium but even a small perturbation would result in it falling out of that equilibrium
What does it mean if something is in a meta-stable equilibrium?
In the middle of stable and unstable so this means that it would be affected by some perturbations but not the small ones
What does it mean if something is in static equilibrium?
The equilibrium does not change through time
What does it mean if something is in dynamic equilibrium?
The equilibrium state changes over time
What are the 3 types of model?
Physical, conceptual and computer
How would you define resistance, but what is important to remember about this definition?
The ability of a system to resist change. However, different disciplines (ecology, engineering and geomorphology) all have slightly different definitions and unique to the case being referred to
