10. EKG part 2 Flashcards
1
Q
What is ventricular fibrillation?
A
- Some coarse, random electrical activity is present, but no clear QRS complex
- Shockable
2
Q
What is asystole?
A
- Flat line
- No residual electricity
3
Q
What is the normal duration of a P wave?
A
< 0.12 sec
4
Q
What duration of the QRS interval is considered abnormal?
A
0.12 secs or greater
5
Q
What does a long PR duration suggest?
A
1° AV block
6
Q
What does a short PR duration suggest?
A
Pre-excitation syndrome bypassing the AV node (such as WPWS)
7
Q
Define axis.
A
Direction of ventricular depolarization in the frontal/coronal plane
8
Q
What is a normal axis?
A
Down and leftward (0-90º)
9
Q
What is the sequence of ventricular depolarization?
A
- Septum depolarizes right & downward
- Bundle branches simultaneously depolarize the R and L ventricles (mass wins –> left & downard axis)
10
Q
What is a bipolar lead?
A
Impulse that goes one way (up/down) first, then goes the other way
11
Q
What is the simplest way to determine axis?
A
Look to see if QRS is positive for leads 1 and aVF
