get in touch with charge nurse give pertinent info transfer by private car make sure all medical records are up to date EFM started and IV and blood work cervical dilation checked pain managment discussed labor plan discussed

A
narcotic agonists -dont eliminate pain, just make women docile; short-term relief with inhibited fetal respirations
& narcotic agonist antagonists

A
Ropivacaine and morphine/fentanyl

Epidural Advantages
A
provides pain relief in 1st and 2nd stages
anesthesia for interventions (episiotomy, instrument, perineal repair)
avoid (IV) opiod maternal & neonatal resp depression

Epidural Disadvantages
A
hypotension, fever, post-dural HA, increase labor length, pruritis

Epidural Contraindications
A
refractory maternal hypotension, coagulopathy, maternal bacteremia
