1 st lecture: Climate change intro Flashcards
What is active surface?
The space where solar energy is reduced (solar energy===thermal energy)
What are 3 ways to classify the Earth‘s climate zones?
Climatic solar zones (different angle of impact of the sun’s rays)
Temperature zones ( the distribution of land and oceans, the general circulation of the atmosphere, the circulation of sea currents)
Climatic physical zones (tropical zone, subtropical zone, polar zone, temperate zone) (includes precipitation, differences in air circulation, vegetation forms)
What is the difference between genetic and conventional climate classifications?
Conventional approaches observable environmental conditions and statistical data such as temperature
Genetic- approaches underlying causes or mechanisms that produce specific climatic conditions, such as atmospheric circulation patterns.
What is Koppen-Geiger classification? (conventional)
It assumes that natural vegetation is the best reflection of the climate of the territory
What is Alisov classification? (genetic)
Defines the boundaries of individual climatic zones based on air mases.
What are climate fluctuations?
Droughts and floods caused by variations in precipitation.
ENSO cycles (El Niño and La Niña) affecting global weather irregularly every 2–7 years.
(Short-term climate variations)
What does anthropogenic activity means?
any human activity or action that affects the environment or ecosystems
