5th lecture: Green house effect Flashcards
What is blackbody?
It absorbs all radiation of all wavelengths falling on its surface.
An ideal radiator, emitting the highest possible amount of radiant energy of all possible bodies of the same temperature.
What are 2 kinds of solar radiation?
Straight- straight beams visible with a human eye
Scattered - in the atmosphere
Name 3 parts of solar radiation spectrum in increasing order?
Ulraviolet<visible<infrared
What is green house effect?
Greenhouse gases, including carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), water vapor (H2O), nitrous oxide (N2O), and fluorinated gases, absorb and re-emit some of this outgoing infrared radiation.
This process traps heat within the lower atmosphere, warming the planet.
What is ALBEDO?
measure of how much solar radiation is reflected by a surface compared to how much it absorbs (0-1) 1-total reflection, no absorbtion
High-albedo surfaces, like snow or ice, reflect a large portion of incoming sunlight.
Low-albedo surfaces, like forests, soil, or oceans, absorb more sunlight and reflect less.
Surfaces with low albedo absorb more heat, contributing to localized warming.
- Main gfg responsible for the planet’s total heating are
CO2 , CH4 ,N2O and halogenated hydrocarbons.
