Ichobod means ‘the glory has departed’. Israel had lost the Ark of the Covenant to the Philistines, because they took it for granted and treated it as a good luck charm so God allowed it to be taken.

Saul started out great. He had natural advantages of being from a good family and being a tall, handsome guy. He prophesied and got words from the Lord and exemplified godly character. The Philistines, by invading Judah were acting as a thorn hedge overtaking the farmland (tilled field).
David was the only one who could see the spiritual battle taking place and that the enemy doesn’t belong there and they need to be taken out.
What was the interaction between Saul and David?
Saul’s court –> David behaved wisely and received public praise –> Saul threw a spear at David –> The Lord was with David –> Saul was afraid of David so he demoted him –> David behaved wisely and God remained with him –> Saul offered David his daughter, Michal, for 100 Philistine foreskins –> Dvid brought back 200 Philistine foreskins –> Saul grew more afraid of David –> David behaved more even more wisely and was highly esteemed by the people
