Curran & Seaton key study
They identified 2 groups attitudes towards new media:

Who are Neophilliacs
Neophiliacs are people that think positively about benefits of the media,
believe new forms of media (e.g social media) led to increased amount of choice for consumers and led to the revitalisation of democracy & democratic engagement
Outline Neophilliacs view on new media
The media has given the audience control over the media they consume ( through interactivity & choice) & increasing engagement in other aspects of society too
New Media have created more opportunities for individuals to find info, offered individuals greater choice & freedom,
provided new ways for people to interact with each other, and resulted in more people challenging the powerful and economic growth.
Like Arab Spring e.g was sparked by interactions through new media, such as Facebook or mobile phone messaging platforms
(Arab Spring, wave of pro-democracy protests and uprisings that took place in the Middle East and North Africa beginning in 2010 and 2011,)
