Tell us about your current company…
Define Planning and Design Ltd is a relatively small practise with approximately 30 employees, based in Birmingham. We specialise in a landscape-led approach to design across the disciplines of urban design, landscape architecture, planning and more recently, architecture.
The company has been running for around 12 years and is a limited liability company that is owned by two founding directors.
Tell us about the management structure…
Define is a private limited company owned by two founding directors who sit at the top of the management structure.
There are then three directors that sit below the founding directors. Below them are associate directors, these lead each main discipline, landscape architecture, urban design, planning. Below these sit seniors, graduates and assistants and year out positions.
Why did you want to become chartered?
Being on the pathway has been a way for me to learn all about the industry and the role that I am in. It is a way to ensure that I have competency to practice LA and it will give me the confidence to do so with the knowledge learned behind me.
I also hope that it is a way to advance in my career and gain responsibilities as well as allowing me to guide project design.
