1. Fundamental principles of NPO diagnostics Flashcards
1
Q
What does diagnostics mean? And what 3 aspects does it have?
A
Diagnostics = the art of distinguishing a disease/the recognition of a disease from its symptoms
3 aspects:
- A symptom is not equal to a disease (someone doesn’t need to check all the boxes to get a diagnosis)
- Recognition
- Making hypotheses
2
Q
Reasons for diagnostics research (5x)
A
- Knowledge/awareness: what are the problems?
- Explanation/diagnostics: why are these problems noticeable?
- Prediction: how will these problems develop?
- Indication: for treatment
- Evaluation: did the intervention help sufficiently?
3
Q
What is the ‘halo-effect’?
A
If you believe something must be true, you forget to look at differential diagnoses, so you have to have an open mind
4
Q
What is validity?
A
Does the test measure what it is supposed to measure?
5
Q
What is reliability?
A
Do the scores represent actual functioning or is the measure error to big?
