What is core duty 1?
Duty to the court in the administration of justice
What is core duty 2?
To act in the best interests of the client
What is core duty 3?
To act with honesty and integrity
What is core duty 4?
To maintain independence
What is core duty 5?
Not to abuse the trust or confidence the public places in you or the profession
What is core duty 6?
To keep client matters confidential
What is core duty 7?
To provide a competent standard of work and service
What is core duty 8?
To not unlawfully discriminate against any person
What is core duty 9?
To be open and cooperative with your regulators
What is core duty 10?
To take reasonable steps to manage my practice, competently and in a way so as to achieve compliance with legal and regulatory duties
Are the core duties expressed in order of precedence?
No except that:
CD1 overrides any in conflict
Equally, best interets is subject to honesty and integrity, the court, independence, and unlawful discrimination.
Who does the duty to be open and co-operative apply to?
All relevant regulators, including those under the Legal Services Act 2007
What does your duty to take reasonable steps (CD10) extend to?
Duty to take reasonable steps to mitigate effects of any breach of those obligations once you become aware of it
