Determinative-put pictures next to something to change meeting (owl+something=wisdom)
Rebus-two different words put next to each other form new word (bee + leaf = belief)
Carolingian minuscule
Capital and lower case hand letters that were standardized by Charlemagne and are a model for the Roman letters we use today. Had spaces between words and lines

Ground up, cooked plant forms that were pressed and dried and used to write on- first invented by the Chinese
Heraldry
The basis for ID systems used today, a person would wear a coat of arms designed by a herald to identify families and marriages

Japanese heraldry, corporate designs today often look similar to these family marks
Trajan column
A column carved in capital letters, formed serifs and sometimes had triangles to space out words - model for our capital letters
Cuneiform
First written language of the Sumerians, means “wedge-shaped”, writing on clay with sticks
