1
Q

Parasitism - ?

A

Association between 2 orgamisms, one of which lives at the expense of the other. Parasite stays in or on the host in order to obtain food, develop and multiply

A

organism (usually a blood sucking arthropod) which
plays an active role in transmitting the protozoan parasite

Q

Biological vs. mechanical vector

A
  • biological, if there is multiplication (development) in it,
and its participation in the life cycle is obligatory
  • mechanical, when there is only transmission and it plays a facultative role in the life cycle

Q

Heteroxenous species

A

it develops in two kinds of participants in its life cycle (excluding paratenic host)
(vector and host, or intermediate and final host)
either obligatorily or facultatively (multichannel development)

Q

Why in case of vector-born protozoa we use vector-host and not final-intermediate hosts

A

Because sexual reproduction can not be attributed
unanimously to one of the life cycle participants -> it is more appropriate to assign a vector and a host role in the life cycle
