Q

Describe the process that Secretory Proteins undergo as they move through the Golgi apparatus and their fate afterwards

A

Secreted proteins are translated in the ribosome on the RER and enter its lumen
The proteins move through the Golgi apparatus and are then packaged in Secretory vesicles.
These vesicles move to and fuse with the plasma membrane, releasing the proteins out of the cell.

Q

What does many secreted proteins require to become active proteins?

A

Many secreted proteins are synthesised as inactive precursors and require proteolytic cleavage to produce active proteins.

Q

What is one example of a secreted protein which requires proteolytic cleavage to become active?
