what is aetiological validity
all have the same cause of schizophrenia
what did Cheniaux (2009) study
2 psychiatrists had to independently diagnose 100 patients using ICD and DSM criteria
once diagnosed 26 with dsm and 44 with icd
the other 13 with dsm and 24 with icd
limitation of reliability and validity of diagnosis
what did rosenhan (1973) study
8 pseudo patients tried to be admitted saying they heard voices ‘empty hollow thud’
all were admitted, 7 diagnosed with schizophrenia, and average stay was 19 days
staff didn’t detect them, and they wrote down their experiences
what was rosenhans 2nd study
the staff of a hospital were told of the first study and told one or more pseudo patient would try to be admitted
over the next 3 months 193 patients were assessed, 41 believed to be frauds by staff, 23 by psychiatrists, and 19 by both
none were pseudo patients
