09 July: SCI first Flashcards
a complete SCI:
total absence of sensation in dermatomes below level of lesion
incomplete lesions
sensory loss related to damage w/n specific spinal tracts
neurological level is when
the MMT is equal or greater than 3 / 5
functional level is when
the MMT is greater than or equal to 3+ / 5
central cord syndrome
a lesion centrally located structures of region that produces sacaral sparing and greater weakness in the upper limbs than in the lower limbs
brown sequard syndrome
hemisection of the cord whihc produces ipsilateral (samesided) proprioceptive and motor loss and contrallateral (other side) loss of pain adn temrpature
posterior cord syndrome
rare results form compress by tumor or infarction of the posterior spinal artery
proprioception sterognosis two point discrimination and vibration sense are lost below the lesion
anterior cord syndrome
a lesion that produces variable loss of motor function and of sensitivity to painadn temperature while preserving propiroception touch adn vibraion
conus medullairs
nonreflexive bladder and bowel and lower limbs :
- occasionally show preserved reflexes
cauda equina syndrome
nonreflexive bladder nowel and lower llimbs
