What’s are the purposes of a psychosocial assessment?
- To engage
- To develop a trust relationship

what are some things invovled in the violence assessment?
- Current presentation and relevant behaviors that precipitated them
- Prior history of violent behavior
- Legal history
- Observable behavior/verbalizations
- Thoughts to harm others
Is there a plan?
Is there intent?
Who is it directed at?
What is the Mental Status Examination (MSE) used for?
To evaluate the patient’s current state
What type of questions may be asked to test for Orientation in MSE?
- Person
- Place
- Time
- Situation (Why they’re here)
Euthymic
Normal
Euphoric
Elated
Dysphoric
Depressed, restless
Labile
easily changeable
Illusions:
misperceptions/misinterpretations of real external stimuli
Hallucinations:
false sensory perception not associated with real external stimuli. Hallucinations may invovle any of the 5 senses.
Thought broadcasting:
Thoughts can be heard by others
Thought insertion:
thoughts are being implanted by external forces.
Ideas of reference:
Incorrect assumptions that real events or incidents have direct reference to one’s self
i.e thinking you caused the paris attacks.
Magical Thinking:
Believes actions/words have power
Obsessions:
Persistent thought/feeling that they are unable to remove from their consciousness
i.e can’t stop thinking about drinking, washing hands, having sex, pursuing heroin.
Phobias:
Irrational fears
Delusions:
Unrealistic ideas/beliefs
Persecutory:
Belief that someone is out to get them in some way
Grandiose
An idea that they are all powerful or of great importance
Reference:
An idea that what is happening in the environment is about them
Somatic:
A belief that they have a dysfunctional body part
ex bug beaneath the teeth and the teeth needs to be taken out in order for the bugs to be released.
Nihilistic:
A belief that they or a part of them does not exist or has been destroyed.
Religious:
Obsession with religious ideas.
Paranoid:
Singled out for unfair treatment, suspicious
