01.12.2016 STM Flashcards
STM: define
procedure directed towards tissues other than the skeleton while monitoring response an emotion changes using diagnostic palpation
- State of constant contraction cannot be deformed
STM: uses
- Tissue restrictions
- Reduce spasm
- Lymphatic flow/edema
- Pain-reduction
- Improve ROM/flexibility
- Change in peripheral blood flow
- Balance
General principles:
1) Superficial layers before deep
2) Direction of max restriction
3) Dependent on extent of restriction, amount of discomfort, degree of instability
Contraindications
