Zang Fu Pattern: Lung and LI Flashcards
List the common syndromes of Lung
Deficiency: Lung Qi Deficiency, Deficiency of Yin
Excess: Invasion of Wind-cold, dryness heat, retention of phlegm-turbidity in the lung
List the Common symptoms of Lung
cough, expectoration, asthma, SOB, hoarseness, hemoptysis, chest pain
feeble cough, SOB, worse on exertion, clear dilute sputum, low voice, disinclination to speak, listlessness, lassitude, spontaneous sweating, susceptibility to cold, pale tongue with white coating and weak pulse
Deficiency of Lung Qi
western diseases associated with deficiency of Lung Qi
Chronic bronchitis, pulmonary emphysema, prolonged TB of lung and pulmonary heart disease
Etiology and pathology of Deficiency of Lung Yin
Prolonged cough or asthma, febrile disease at its later period, TB lung all causes impairment of Lung Yin leading to deficiency fire
cough without sputum or with little sticky sputum or blood, dryness of the mouth and throat, hoarseness, emaciation, afternoon fever, burning sensation in the chest, palms and soles night swearing, malar flush
Tongue: red tongue with little moisture
pulse: thready and rapid pulse
Deficiency of Lung Yin
Western diseases associated with Deficiency of Lung Yin
Lung TB, chronic bronchitis
Cough with white and thin sputum, nasal obstruction, runny nose, aversion cold, fever, absence of sweating, white coating, superifical and tense pulse
Invasion of Lung by Wind Cold
Cough with thick and yellow sputum, nasal obstruction, thick and yellow nasal discharge, aversion to wind cold, fever, headache, dryness of the mouth, sore throat, red tip of tongue, thin and yellow coating, superficial and rapid pulse
Invasion of the lung by Wind Heat
Disease associated with invasion of the lung by Wind heat
Cold, acute bronchitis and pneumonia
Etiology and pathology of Accumulation of phlegm dampness in the lung
1.prolonged illness of cough and dyspnea + invasion of wind cold damp in the lung leading to Lung Qi fail to distribute fluids over the body
2. Improper diet leading to disorder of the spleen failure to transport and transform water damp
both pathologies leads to dampness turn into sputum
cough with profuse white and sticky sputum,, easy expectoration, sensatin of oppression and fullness in chest, asthma, gurgling sound in the throat, pale tongue, white and sticky coating, slippery pulse
Accumulation of phlegm dampness in the lungs
Etiology and pathology of retention of heat in the lung
- Invasion of wind heat from the mouth and nose
- transformation of wind cold or wind heat into heat
both leading to retention of heat in the lung
Disease associated with retention of heat in the lung
acute or chronic bronchitis, pneumonia, infection complicated by bronchiectasis, pulmonary abscess, asthmatic bronchitis, bonchial asthma
cough with thick and yellow sputum, asthmatic and coarse breathing, dyspnea, even flaring of nares, high fever, thirst with desire to drink, irritability, epistaxis, hemoptysis, chest pain, cough and expectoration with foul sputum, constipation, scanty deep red urine, red tongue with yellow coating, slippery and rapid pulse
Retention of heat in lung
