What does Zakah mean?
A
Zakah means purification - it is the purification of one’s heart of greed.

What is Nisab?
A
Nisab is something used to determine whether or not a Muslim can afford to pay zakah. This is decided if their net worth is more than a certain amount.

How much do Sunni and Shi’a Muslims give?
A
Sunni Muslims give 2.5% of their wealth above the Nisab and Shia Muslims give 20%.

How is Zakah different from charity?
A
This is different to charity giving, because Zakah is just the sharing of wealth given by Allah. Muslims believe that what they posses is only with them because of Allah, and therefore seek to share their wealth.
