Ptosis

3rd nerve palsy / Horner’s
Myogenic caused by?
myopathy of levator muscle
occurs in myasthenia gravis, myotonic dystrophy & external opthalmoplegia
aponeuronic ptosis caused by?
defect in levator aponeurosis
mechanical ptosis/?
gravitational pull from mass or scarring
Forms of pseudootosis?
lack of support dermatochlalasis brow ptosis ipsilateral hypotropia contralateral lid retraction
what is the normal margin reflex distance?
4-5 mm
normal palpebral fissure height?
2mm below upper limbus/ mm above lower limbus
Men seven to ten
women eight to twelve mm
Signs associated with congenital ptosis?
weak or no eyelid crease
dystrophic levetor muscle
ptosis decreased in down gae
chin up position
Signs with acuired ptosis?
crease higher
in down gae ptosis may be level or lower
use frontalis muscle to compensate
ptosis may get worse at different times. stress fatigue etc
Normal Ranges?
MCD: 8; 0 MRD-one: 4-5.....4 Bells: Positive Lag: Neg PF:7 LF: eleven
Characteristics with ectropian?
epiphora
redness
irritation
outward turning of the lids
