What is project Breakthrough?

A

Vision: Inspiring positive change at YRP to support and include all members.

Breakthrough is an initiative that is creating positive change at YRP to better support all members. It’s about keeping what YRP does well and improving the things that aren’t working.

The seven projects that fall under the Breakthrough umbrella are focused on member well being ensuring members feel valued, supported and included no matter what their role is in the organization.

The projects are addressing issues relating to wellness and mental health, the status and workload of the frontline, inclusion, professional development, the promotional/positional selection process, recruiting, the communications centre and relations between employees.

What are the sevens teams of Breakthrough?

  1. Vanguard
    -identifying gaps and barriers for women in there career (recruitment, retention, professional development, workplace culture)
  2. Communications Modernization
  3. Inclusion
    -Employment:recruitment, selection, hiring and promotional practices that comply with inclusivity, equity and fairness at all levels of the organization.

-Professional development and training:all members provided with training that is consistent with policy and legislation – encouraging professional practices and protecting human rights.

-Communications:accessible messages that reach and respond to the needs of communities.

-Service delivery:programs and services to the public support inclusivity and are delivered in a manner that is fair, respectful and equitable.​

  1. Wellness (biological, psychological, social and spiritual health)
    -embedded health providers bring services to members where they work, creating a culture that is open about mental health and endorses well-being as a core component of policing
  2. Nova
    -Mission was to ensure balanced workload for frontline officers (CDU, VARP-The verified alarm response program, changing shifts to Bravo’s when you have court
