1940 nearly all children belonged to the hitler youth
There was a law in 1939 merged all groups into hitler youth groups, further laws made it compulsory

DJV (young German folk) boys 10-14
JM (young girls) 10-14
HJ (hitler youth) boys 14-18
BDM (league of German girls) 14-18

Training them for the army

In 1933 what changed with running schools ?
They used to be run by the local state but once nazis took power it was run by a “ministry of education” in beeline
How unsuccessful were these policies for children?
There were rebellious groups; edelweiss pirates, white rose group and swing youth
These groups wrote anti nazi protests on walls, fought with the hitler youth. Danced the jitterbug and wore tartan clothing and long hair to look British
Although hitler youth was compulsory, 1 million didn’t go
