Don and Kathy are upstage, facing each other in close proximity, as don picks up Kathy holding her from underneath her arms, whilst Kathy’s arms are placed lightly around dons neck with her left hand ontop of her right. Don turns them around sustaining Kathy in the air, before gently lowering her

- close proximity to each other. Moments of distance e.g. when Kathy runs on a linear pathway, but Don quickly follows

What are the dynamics?

- transitions into a slightly more increased speed, which become bouncy. This helps compliments the ballroom hops and tap steps

- heavy use of contact to enhance the narrative of falling in love. Their connections become more frequent towards the end

- mostly in unison - shows they thinking the same and always together

- dance reflects character and progresses narrative
- use of camera manipulating space - this makes the audience feel like they are there with them
- blending techniques - tap, ballet, jazz, ballroom.
Tap is adapted to be more delicate and soft to blend with the narrative and other styles.

Ballet (pas de bore, pas de deux) - inspired by MT - mimicking Fred Astaire and Ginger Rodgers

What is the aural setting?
A
- the music starts during the dialogue (similar to “AIDIDOY”)
- Flutes and string instruments playing to help paint the romantic picture that Don is describing to Kelly
- Don in singing to Kathy, confessing his love
- Instrumental interludes for pas de deus between the characters
- slow tempo until don and Kathy gallop in circle together in a social dance - quicker pace here
- sound effects of the tap shoes (like a heart beat)
- volume increases when Don lifts Kathy and quietens when they pause and when Don starts singing again - direct correlation of music and movement

What are the lighting and set?

- all the stage lighting is turned on - one main spotlight on them
- soft wash of colour (purple) to add to romantic feel
- on a film set - purple and blue sky backdrop with clouds, vast amounts of stage lighting, wind machine (giant fan), smoke, a ladder (a balcony) - could represent the barrier between them being together.

- Don is in a smart cricket vest jumper and shirt with sleeves rolled up, trousers. White symbolises pure and positive
- Kathy is in a pale dress from the Beautiful Girls dance. Feminine. Flows with her movement - adding to romantic atmosphere. Complements the backdrop and lighting. Headdress has been removed.
