Year 9 Science Photosynthesis and Plants Flashcards
What happens to the rate of photosynthesis when the heat reaches the turning point?
Stops because of enzymes die-off.
Why does the rate of photosynthesis level when the light intensity reaches MAX?
Levels off because it requires the rest of the reactants for photosynthesis.
Why do marine plants die when the algae are formed?
Because the light can’t reach the bottom
What’s in Fertilizer helps the plant grow?
Nitrogen phosphorus and potassium compounds
Whats transpiration?
The transportation of water and minerals up the xylem
Why do leaves fall off in winter?
Deficient in light.
What are the three ingredients for Photosynthesis?
Carbon Dioxide Water and Light.
What’s the first thing in the food chain called?
Producer.
What’s Trophic Level mean?
Level in the food chain.
Where is Carbon Dioxide entered into the plant?
Stoma.
Give two adaptations to the root hair cells?
Large Surface Area and lots of mitochondria great for the energy for the active transport of water and minerals.
What’s a herbivore?
Plant eater.
How much energy is passed on to every animal?
10%.
What do farmers use to stop animals from eating plants?
Pesticides.
What’re the thylakoids?
Stacks of Grana where the photosynthesis reaction occurs containing chlorophyll.
Describe the Thylokoid Process:
So light energy reaches the granum where it is reacted with the chlorophyll causing electrons to gain energy and escape to photosystem 1 where the same thing happens but on the way, the electrons split the water to hydrogen and oxygen and after this, they get to the photosystem 1 where chlorophyll is further energized.
This is light energy.
