Year 8 Science Respiratory System Flashcards
What’s the flap of tissue that stops food going in the respiratory system?
Epiglottis.
What coats the lining of the respiratory system?
Ciliated Cells.
What’s the naval cavity?
Three bones that humidify the air.
What’s the bronchus?
Two bits separate each lung.
Why is noise hair so good?
Stops dust from coming through.
How have the alveoli adapted to their function?
Large Surface area and thin.
What are the alveoli?
Where carbon dioxide blood is in the capillary and is diffuses out and oxygen is absorbed.
What happens to the pressure in the Thorax when we inhale?
It decreases as the rib cage expands.
What type of blood enters the left Pulomary Vein?
Deoxididised Blood.
Tobacco smoke contains carbon monoxide. What problem does this cause?
Carbon monoxide from tobacco smoke combines with hemoglobin in the red cells, reducing the ability of the blood to carry oxygen. This puts a strain on the circulatory system, which increases the risk of coronary heart disease.
Where in the digestive system is water reabsorbed?
Large Intestines.
Which enzymes are involved in digesting starch to glucose?
Amylase and maltase.
What’s the only enzyme made in the stomach?
Protease.
Whats Villi?
The finger-like projections are the villi in the small intestine that absorbs minerals.
What causes air to be drawn in the mouth?
The diaphragm pulls down leaving a large vacuum that makes you an erge to breathe.
