year 13 sociology mock Flashcards
Outline two reasons why surveillance may not reduce crime
(4 marks)
Some crimes may be hidden from surveillance. Crime may happen in areas where there is no surveillance. For example, domestic violence or sexual abuse inside a house.
Criminals could hide their identity so no one can tell that it is them committing a crime. For example, the disguise could be wearing a mask and covering their face. This would mean the surveillance is ineffective.
Outline three reasons for social class differences in patterns of offending
(6 marks)
Working-class individuals may experience poverty. Therefore, they may commit crimes such as theft to steal food or clothes etc.
The working-class are labelled as criminals, so they may end up giving up to the label and committing crime by creating a self-fulfilling prophecy due to labelling.
Middle-class individuals have more opportunity to commit crimes. For example, they could commit a form of white-collar crime at their job which leads to crime.
