reason for changes in attitudes towards marriage,divorce,family, homosexuality(5)
- historical events: voting rights of women allowed other groups to fight for equal rights
- view of world made global: see lots of different attitudes
- uk is multifaith/multi ethnic so there is lots of different cultures
- people more tolerant of others views:diversity is seen as a positive thing
- tv shows lots of issues like female priests in ‘vicar of dibley.’
- change of law: homosexual marriage being legal

christians believe sex outside of marriage is wrong because:
- bible says sex is only between marriage partners
- promiscuity increases risk of std’s
- adultery breaks marriage vow of faithfulness
- children born outside of marriage may have a less stable family life
some christians think it’s acceptable if they are in a long term relationship and intend to get married in the future
ALL Christians think adultery is wrong
the purpose of marriage
- be faithful to one partner
- procreate
- form secure environment to bring up children
- provide companionship
- symbolise gods love for the church

-roman catholic: doesn’t allow divorce because jesus said ‘anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her.’(mark)
Only exception is an anulment if they can prove that they should be allowed.
-protestant:allows divorce in some circumstances: if there is unfaithfulness ‘anyone who divorces his wife,except in the case of unfaithfulness and marries another commits adultery’ (matthew)

- may be a lot of arguments
against:
- made vows in marriage
- marriage is a sacrament and shouldn’t be broken
- affects on the children

-evangelical: against because the bible says ‘no man is to have sexual relations with a man,god hates that.’

- roman catholic: being homo isn’t a sin but having homo sex is. Sex is for procreation, homosexuals cant get married and you cant have sex before marriage
- other protestants: welcome homosexuals because religion is spiritual not sexual

- prevention from stds
- want to plan own family later in life
- dont believe they would be good parents
- may carry genetically inherited condition
- may not be financially stable to have children

- church of england: dont regard contraception as against gods plan because there is nothing in the bible that says its wrong
