Year 10 Probability Flashcards
Probability
Measure of how likely something is to happen
Probability of an event = number of outcomes favourable to event / total number of possible outcomes
Experimental probability of an event
Number of times the event occurs / total number of possible outcomes
When number of trials in an experiment is large, experimental probability of an event = theoretical probability of the event
Sample space
Decorated by the letter S, for any random experiment
Collection of all the possible outcomes of the experiment - a list
What is an event of an experiment
An event E of an experiment is a collection of outcomes
P(E) = n(E) / n(S)
n(E) = number of outcomes favourable to event
n(S) = number of total possible outcomes in the sample space
