How did Hitler become chancellor?

A

Between 1930 and 1933 4 elections were held in Germany. 2 were to decide Germany’s President and 2 were to elect a Reichstag. Hitler and the Nazis took part in all four elections. By January 1933 his party would be the largest in the Reichstag and Hitler would be Chancellor. This happened because the President at the time (Hindenburg) did not like Hitler but after many attempts failed as a replacement he decided to elect Hitler. He though he would have control over Hitler but Hitler found ways to get around him and when Hindenburg died Hitler combined president and chancellor into a new role he named Führer.
