Year 10: chapter 8.1 Distance & Displacement Flashcards
1
Q
Accuracy & precision
A
Accuracy reflects how close you’re to actual value while precision reflects how close measured results are & may/not be accurate
2
Q
Why desirable to use > I type measuring device
A
- incorrectly assembled, marked w/ standard scale
- precise but not accurate due to Sys error
- shows if there’s Sys error with 1 of devices
3
Q
Distance & Displacement
A
Distance: scaler, has size, no direction: refers to how much ground covered of moving body
Displacement: vector, size & direction: how far object is out of place
4
Q
Systematic error
A
Always differs by same amount
- equipment incorrectly assembled, zeroed or marked
- change in condition & person incorrectly recording measurements
5
Q
Random error
A
Error that changes in unpredictable manner
- observer reading scale, parallax error
- error in reading incorrect value
6
Q
Average velocity
A
Displacement/time
