What is predestination?
The belief that God has predetermined who will receive salvation and who will not
What do Shi’a Muslims believe (Imamate)?
Shi’a Muslims believe that Muhammad said there would be twelve people who would descend from him and succeed him as the leaders of Islam.
Shia’s believe that the first eleven have lived and that the last Imam will appear when Allah decided the end of time.
Give 2 beliefs about the Imamate
- Cannot be questioned on matters of faith
- They protect the teachings of the Qur’an
- They were chosen especially by God
What is the difference between Sunni and Shi’a?
Shi’a Muslims believe that Ali (The first Imam) succeeded the Prophet Muhammad.
Sunni Muslims believe in the successorship of Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman and Ali as leaders of the Muslim community after the Prophet Muhammad. They believe in electing their religious leaders - the position is not passed down through the Prophet Muhammad’s bloodline. The first Caliph/ leader chosen by the Sunnis was a friend of the Prophet Muhammad named Abu Bakr as-Siddiq.
Give 3 facts about Angels
Supernatural messengers of god
Created with light
They have no free will
They must do God’s work
Give 3 tasks the Angels have
Revealing messages to prophets
Reading people’s actions from the book of deeds
Escorting humans to paradise or hell
Give 2 influences of mercy, justice, and fairness (Adalat)
1) Muslims believe they will be judged fairly on whether they should go to heaven or hell.
God is merciful so he will show forgiveness for people who have sinned and therefore many will still go to paradise.
2) One of Allah’s 99 names is merciful, so Muslims should be compassionate and fair in the way they treat others.
They should try and show forgiveness to people who have harmed them - eg. some Muslims have forgiven terrorist actions.
Give 3 facts for Angel Jibril
- A special angel who is a trusted messenger of God
- This is the angel that appeared to Muhammad on the Night of Power and gave him God’s message. This became the Qur’an.
- Jibril guided Muhammad throughout his life
Give three facts for Angel Mika’il
- Angel of Mercy
- Mika’il rewards people for the good they do in their lives
- He can bring rain, thunder, and lightning to earth
- Whoever is an enemy of Mika’il is an enemy of God
- Brings nourishment to humans through rain
Give 3 arguements for the importance of Angels - give a quote too
The Qur’an talks about angels so they must be important to the Muslim religion as the Qur’an is the actual words of God
Belief in Angels (Malaikah) is one of the six articles of faith - Sunni must follow and believe in this
Angel Jibril revealed the Qur’an to Muhammad - this is one of the most important events in Islamic faith
Many Muslims believe that angels are important in the relationship between god and humans ‘Each person has angels watching over him by God’s command’
Muslims believe that angels will reveal their deeds, which is a major contributing factor to the Day of Judgement and ultimately whether Muslims end up in heaven or hell.

He destroyed all the statues of other Gods. And, by a miracle, he escaped the fire given by the people as a punishment.
He rebuilt the Ka’aba which had been destroyed in the great flood. Many of the sites on Hajj are linked to his story. He was willing to sacrifice the most important thing to him (his son) in order to follow God’s command.
