16
Q

What are some characteristics of woollen yarn?

A

Bulky, eneaven, thick, hairy, textured, slackly twisted, weak and less-durable

17
Q

What are some characteristics of worsted yarn?

A

Finer, even, smooth, tightly twisted and more wrinkle resistant.

18
Q

What is Textured yarn from?

A

Synthetic filaments (thermoplastic)

19
Q

What is textured yarn?

A

Synthetic yarn that has been distorted to have loops, coils, curls or crimps to add or increase texture, bulkiness, softness or elasticity.

20
Q

What is the first step in making textured yarn?

A
  1. The filament is distorted and the bond is broken.
21
Q

What is the second step in making textured yarn?

A
  1. The yarn is heated wich breaks the bonds and allows the filaments to stay crimped.
22
Q

What is the third step in making textured yarn?

A
  1. The yarn is cooled in the distorted shape and enables new bonds to form between polymers
23
Q

What are novelty yarns used for?

A

Decoration and increase the asthetic of the fabric.

24
Q

What are 2 ways decorative effects be acheived for novelty yarns?

A
  1. altering the amount of twist
    or
2.twisting yarns of different thickness together
25
Q

What can novelty yarns be made from?

A

Felting, braiding, knitting, heat setting, flat locking and spinning.

26
Q

What are the disadvantages of novelty yarns?

A

They are Expensive to produce
do not improve durabilty and strength of the yarn.
