What is a fibre blend?
A combonation of two or more different types of fibres brought together for a specific purpose.
What must a fibre blend have to be sucessfull in the textile marketplace?
Advanced end use properties or properties that make it different from the single fibre properties.
What are the main reasons for blending fibres?
- To reduced the fabric -> increase profit
- To give different handle and texture effects
- To give specific qualities for the particular end-use
- To make the fabric easier to care for
- To make the fabric more crease resistant
- To allow fabrics to heat-set
What are some benifits of adding natural fibres to a blend?
To increase moisture absorbency, greater comfort, reduce static electricity and improve asthetic appeal
What are some benifits of adding sythetic fibres to a blend?
To impove strength, wash and wear characteristics, wrinkle resistance and to add lustre or sheen.
What is an Intimate fibre blend?
Different yarns are combined before they are spun.
What is a Mixed fibre blend?
A combanation of yarns used e.g the warp of a weave is nylon while the weft is cotton.
What is a combonation fibre blend?
A blend ply yarns (two or more yarns twisted together)
