What was a Suffragist?

A

These were people who campaigned through speeches, articles and petitions to convince the government to give women the vote. Their first petition to government was in 1866 and they became an official movement in 1897.

What was a Suffragette?

A

By 1903, some women were frustrated by the lack of success using peaceful protest. Instead, they used violence such as protests, sneaking into Parliament, attacking MPs or the police and setting fire to letter boxes, hunger strikes or the famous Emily Davison attempt to disrupt the king’s horse in 1913 to raise awareness of votes for women.
