Tragicomedy
A play that blends elements of both tragedy and comedy. The remarkable thing about a tragicomedy is that it can make you laugh and cry.
Colonialism
When a country or a nation takes control of other lands, regions, or territories and uses resources for their own gain at the expense of indigenous people.
Pathos
Pathos is a Greek word meaning ‘suffering’ or ‘experience’, and it is used to appeal to the emotions of the audience - usually pity and sorrow.
Dramatic Irony
When the reader/audience of the novel or of the play, knows something that the characters do not.
Aside
An actor’s speech heard by the audience but supposedly not by other characters.
Tempestuous
Turbulent or stormy: They were tossed through a long winter night on a tempestuous sea, with an icy wind blowing, and with scarce a rag on their backs.
Loyalty
Committed and devoted to a friend, vow, or cause. He valued the loyalty of his friends.
Vengeance
Injury or damage done to a person in return for injury or damage inflicted by him or her: retribution; revenge; payback.
Manipulate
To control or influence something or someone so that you get an advantage, often unfairly or dishonestly: He can manipulate situations mostly to his benefit.
Oppress
To treat in a way that is cruel or not fair. Many dictators have oppressed the citizens of their countries.
