Simile
A phrase which describes something by comparing it to something else, using like or as: Their food was a tough as old boots.
Onomatopoeia
A word that sounds like what it means. They help you hear what is going on: ‘Thud’, ‘crash’, ‘bang’ and ‘buzz’
Alliteration
When words start with the same letter and, more importantly, the same sound. Polly’s prancing pony performed perfectly.
Personification
Describing objects as if they are people: The flowers danced to the wind.
Metaphor
A figure of speech that describes something by saying it is something else: The spiders had been busy; on the frosty morning, the garden was draped with sparkling diamond lace.
Narcissism
An exceptional interest in and admiration for yourself - self absorption, vanity; Our narcissism may destroy us in the end.
Metamorphosis
A change of physical form, structure, or substance. The class learned about how caterpillars undergo metamorphosis to become butterflies.
Hero
A mythological or legendary figure often of divine descent endowed with great strength or ability
Portal
A door or entrance. The main portal to the estate is an elaborate wrought iron gate on the side facing the road
Perspective
A point of view. The story was told from her perspective.
