Y4 to teach or to not teach Flashcards
From a dynamical systems theory perspective, how is movement formulated?
Movement is formed through the constraints and forms as a system
what are the states of stability and how do they change?
States of stability are an expected and are predictable patterns. Although systems fluctuate, at a certain state, there is a transition of state that causes an instability and a phase shift occurs from a stable state to another stable state
From a coaching perspective, what does the dynamical systems theory suggest us to do?
Coaches should limit any feedback and put athletes into realistic situations. let the athletes discover for themselves.
What are some criticism for the Dynamical systems theory?
for complex movements, it might not result in the most effective technique, could take too long to arrive at an optimal solution (or even not at all), some people might not be able to identify the important information
When does direct perception apply then?
when making adjustments on an escalator, driving on the motorway.
Name a cognitive approach in developing technique in sport
Deliberate practice (Ericsson et al., 1993).
provide appropriate FB with error detection and correction provided, opportunity for repetition use analogies, imagery and mental practice.
Progressive approach -
Focus on technical competency –> develop effective decision making –> cope under symptoms of stress. use multi-sensory representation (Auditory representation) . Create a whole movement representation rather than parts.(Carson and Collins)
What is one strategy that could help execute a technique
singer’s (1988) five step strategy
