Q

What is a Wulf’s Constrained theory?

A

Says that internal focus of attention disrupts automatic processing. Shift towards supporting external focus of attention. She claims that theres greater acurracy, Reduced EMG, max force production, Greater endurance, greater speed, freerer DoF

Q

What is Master’s conscious Processing theory?

A

Skills should be taught implicitly as he claims that it works better under stress. Explicit focus leads to fragmentation of the whole movement.

Q

What’s some critisism about Wulf’s constrained theory?

A

Research assessments are unrealistic.
Tasks are too simple.
Cues given are confusing.

Q

Explain briefly about the meshed control perspective

A

Even in highly skilled individuals, there is some degree of problem solving. Cognitive roles are higher strategic control (Overall control of the primary skill), and the situational control. (Christensen, 2016) Even in highly skilled athletes, they counter challenging situations and there isn’t any way that the situation is the same everytime.

Q

Explain when a consciousness in performance could be good and when it could be bad

A

When the athlete wants to figure where the problem of their performance is coming from, the consciousness can be helpful (shusterman, 2008).
Furthermore awareness can play a role in self-focus, such as the use of cue words as verbal components of the multicomponent embodied routines to facilitate movements

It can be bad when the consciousness is attended towards resulting the performer to be self-conscious or theres an achievement anxiety. Result of worrying (Beilock and Carr, 2001)

Q

What evidence could there be that there is a motor represention in the memory?

A

Existence of BACS (chmack, Mensche). Successful movements requires the successful anticipatory control that draws on BACS. Longterm memory might provide a basis for action.

Q

How should athletes practice or utilise to prevent choking during pressured situation?

A

Use of the Pavio’s Dual encoding theory. Use of verbal stimuli that act as verbal cues to be able to effectively retrieve the essential motor response or help the motoric movement.

Should expose self to self-consciousness training to be able to handle pressure. (Beilock Carr, 2001)

use imagery and self-focus to bring positive effect from A-P relationship (Carson and Collins, 2016)

Holistic training approach can foster technique and mental focus can act as distraction control (Macpherson)
