Y1, C10 - Forces & Motion Flashcards
What is Newton’s 1st Law of Motion
An object at rest will stay at rest
An object moving at a constant velocity will remain at that velocity unless acted on by a resultant force
How must bearings be written
From North
3 digits e.g. 058 rather than 58
What is Newton’s 2nd Law of Motion
F = ma
Where the resultant force (F) and acceleration (a) are in the same direction
What can we consider multiple connected objects moving in the same direction as
A single particle
Tension or Thrust
Which pulls out
Tension
Tension or Thrust
Which pushes in
Thrust
What is Newton’s 3rd Law
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction
Why can’t we model two masses across a pulley as a single particle
They will move in different directions
Under what conditions is the tension in each part of the string over a pulley the same
When the pulley is smooth
What direction does a normal reaction force act in in relation to the surface it is on
Perpendicular
What direction does the resultant force (F) and acceleration (a) have to be acting in for F = ma to hold
The same direction
