XCR Flashcards
The basic principle procedure Position of the patients Critique the image Do PA and Lateral
The principal procedure
Justification Patient identification Patient care and preparation Room preparation Radiation protection Exposure factors Lead markers Position Projections Image evaluation
Explaining the principles
1.justification-doctor must justify why the xray is needed and the must be doctora name and number
2.patients indetification- patient must confirm the details
3.Patient care and preparation
*greet the patient call the patient Mr, miss and dr
*ask patient language of preference
*take the Patient to the changing room
*for female bearing age 10 to 55 you ask LMP
*ask the patient to remove all the artifacts on the chest area
*ask the patient to change into a gown hospital
*explain the procedure to the patient
4.Room preparation
@clean or sanitize the equipment
@make sure the are no obstruction that can injure the Patient
@set exposure factors
@ set fine focus
@ set SID to 150cm
@Lead markers
@x ray tube must be perpendicular to the IR
@set Kvp to be 125 and mAS 2.5
5.projections
# routinely PA to prevent magnification of the heart, placing the Anterior closed to the IR prevent magnification
#lateral we do Left lateral otherwise the doctor specifically asked for right or the Patient experienced pains on the right
6.Image evaluation
Positioning a patients : patients muat stand on the PA position feet slightly apart to distribute weight evenly, hands on the posterior hip palms facing out wards, shoulder rotated forwars alloqing the scapula to move away from the lunhs field, ensure that the shoulder is relaxed to make sure that’s the Clavicle move below the apices of the lungs, chin is raised sufficiently away from the chest and comfortable placed on the bunky.
Image evaluation:position - chin is sufficiently raised away feom the chest
No rotation - sternoclavicular joint is equidistant from the spine
Anatomy demonstrated - both lungs included from the epices to the costopheric angle, Trachea is filled with air, hilum, lungs marking included
Good exposure- sharp outline of the heart and ribs, both lungs are included, posterior ribs aew included
Good expiration - visualize 6 to 8 Anterior ribs, visualize 10 to 11 posterior ribs
Left lateral CXR
Left leteral CXR
Positioning the Patient: patient is standing in lateral, left side against the IR, feet slight apart to distribute the weight evenly, chin raised sufficiently about the chest, arms above the head holding on to elbows to peevent the humerus head to superimposing chest, CR placed horizontal on the lateral auxiliary middle of thorax T7. Central patient point, cr is place to the midline of the chest at level T7. CR is always horizontal and perpendicular to the IR.
Image critiques:position - is evident by chin is sufficiently raised above the chin no soft tissue is superimposing the area of interest.
No rotation:ppsterioor ribs are superimposed, no ribs infront or superimposing the sternum, hilim is sufficiently placed in the middle of the thorax
Good exposure :shrp outline on ribs, costophric angles and codiophric angles and diaphragm
Good visualization is evident by Anteriorly sternum and cadiopheric angles visible Posteriorly posterior ribs aee visible.
